FFB-Bridge 1.5.3 – Noticeably Weaker Forces on MOZA AB9

After updating FFB-Bridge from version 1.5.2 to 1.5.3, the force feedback strength on my MOZA AB9 has noticeably decreased.

FFB is still working, so this is not a complete loss of force feedback. The issue is different: with exactly the same hardware, the same profiles, and the same configuration, the forces at the stick are now clearly weaker than they were with 1.5.2.

Increasing Master Gain does not noticeably restore the previous force level.

My setup:

  • MOZA AB9
  • MSFS 2024
  • FFB-Bridge 1.5.3
  • Same profiles and same hardware configuration previously used with 1.5.2

The change appeared immediately after installing 1.5.3.

For that reason, I do not think it makes sense to retune profiles that were working correctly before the update just to compensate for this new behaviour. If the force level has changed between 1.5.2 and 1.5.3 without any change to the user configuration, I think it is worth checking whether a change or regression has been introduced in force scaling, MOZA hardware output, hardware limits, or gain handling.

Has anyone else with an AB9 or AB6 noticed the same loss of force after updating to 1.5.3?

If this is an intentional change, I would appreciate knowing exactly what changed. If not, this may be a regression compared with 1.5.2.

At this point, I would recommend you update to 1.6-beta. You can do this inside the app, from Settings -> Updates. Switch to the Beta channel and check for updates.

1.6 is a massive release and I'm doing a longer beta, but it is pretty much fully functional. No point trying to troubleshoot 1.5.3 now.

Let me know how 1.6 treats you.

I’ve now tested the current 1.6.x build with my MOZA AB9 and, from what I’ve tried so far, the force feedback itself is working very well. The only thing I would mention is that the default 35% hardware output limit still feels a little conservative to me. It is perfectly usable, and I understand that this is very subjective and also depends on the aircraft and personal preference, but on the AB9 I personally prefer a somewhat higher limit to get a bit more weight and authority from the stick. So overall, from my side, the FFB implementation is working properly now. My only observation would be that the default output limit may be slightly on the safe side for some AB9 users. Of course, that is ultimately a matter of taste and individual setup.

Yes it's fairly low, but then a user can very quickly and easily raise the limit, so I prefer a safer, lower power default.

Once you raise it (Hardware -> Moza has all the sliders), it saves your setting and you never really think about it again.

Higher defaults can surprise people - this base is very powerful and if you're coming from a Sidewinder like I was, you're not used to it.

Anyway, glad to hear that the force feedback is working well generally. As you say, this is a matter of taste, and as they say "de gustibus non est disputandum"!

That makes perfect sense. I agree that 35% is probably a sensible default from a safety point of view, especially for users new to high-torque FFB bases.
Once the hardware limits are raised to personal preference, the AB9 feels very good with FFB-Bridge. Thanks for the explanation, and for the work you’re putting into it.
