Helicopter Feedback Thread - Help me get 'copters working right.

Opening this thread to collect all the feedback from the helicopter pilots. Post stuff here and we'll work together to get this working well.

I personally have never flown helicopters in the sim, so I couldn't add it myself. Need your help!

It would be great if we also would get Force Trim working. In the real helo this is implemented by magnetic brakes which hold the cyclic (the stick, controlling pitch and roll) at a certain position. You always can override it by applying more force, but the springs try to keep it at the desired position. When/while pressing the Force Trim Release button, the brakes are paused and you can move the cyclic to a new position. Releasing FTR engages the brakes again which now hold the new position.

So the “code” would need to detect the FTR button and then change the position the springs try to hold (which is usually 0/0). This function is not equal to Trim.

Yes! FTR would be great! I'm not sure what turbulence and g-loading are supposed to feel like on a heli cyclic but I do know that generally there's no centering spring force but instead mid to high constant damping/resistance to movement. Right now to somewhat simulate this I'm using 20% spring strength (0% makes it very unstable on center, the weight of the stick flops it down in all other directions) and maxed out damping but it's not enough damping. It'd be nice if we could have an option for higher constant damping rather than just the rate damping already offered

For helicopters, some effects are missing, such as Vortex Ring State, which makes the helicopter vibrate if you descend too quickly and causes a slight jerk of the control stick.

There's Overspeed Vibration, which causes vibrations when you reach excessive speed.

There's Effective Translation (ETL), which simulates vibrations when the helicopter enters a speed range between hover and cruising speed. For the Cabri G2, this is between 15 and 20 knots.

There's Blade Slap, which simulates the buffet induced by the rotor blade slicing through the tip. A vortex shed by an adjacent blade causes a sudden spike in noise and vibration under specific flight conditions. On Moza, this is adjusted using the airspeed range and AOA range in degrees.

I'll start working on helicopters after a week or so, in the meanwhile please continue adding this kind of feedback. This is exactly what I need to start adding proper support.

Helicopter support is pretty rough right now so I don't know if anyone has a good profile yet. However, this is something I'm actively working on. Expect an update in a couple weeks with initial support and then I'll tune it with user feedback.
