From the MX2 to a single-seat competition aircraft

MX Aircraft describes the MXS as a close relative of its two-seat MX2, refocused on agility and unlimited aerobatics. The single-seat carbon-fibre airframe and tailored controls reflect that competition purpose. The family also underlies specialised race and display aircraft, but the manufacturer offers a range of engine and equipment choices. A specification for a standard MXS or a particular race aircraft therefore needs that scope when reading about the simulated MXS-R.

Experience is supported by preparation away from the cockpit

Asked about his age before the Gdynia race, Lamb described experience as something that helped him feel comfortable in the demanding world of pylon racing. He was pleased with the season’s progress, including his Malaysian win, while his team continued working to make the MXS-R faster.

His preparation extended beyond the aircraft. Squash supplied a competitive workout that exercised his reactions, while yoga, Pilates and strength work contributed to his fitness. The interview presents confidence as something maintained through that combination of flying, physical preparation and team effort. Lamb did not regard age itself as an obstacle, but his answer still gave considerable weight to the work required to stay ready for competition.

Returning to the racer means regaining its particular feel

Hall felt comfortable with the physical demands of racing, but that confidence had exposed a different weakness. Back in Australia he flew several other aircraft, and returning to the MXS-R required time to recover its particular feel. Familiarity with flying in general was not giving him the precision he wanted in this aeroplane.

Before the Dallas–Fort Worth race, he planned more practice to rebuild that connection with the controls. He also changed his travel arrangements, flying directly from Britain rather than returning to Australia first. Arriving awake and alert made the coming week feel more promising.

A newcomer reaches the start gate with a mentor behind him

Brageot entered the Master Class with more than an aircraft inherited from Nigel Lamb. A mentoring programme had brought him inside the team, where he learned what each person contributed and practised the MXS on the racecourse. Lamb remained available afterwards, offering advice by telephone and message as his successor began competing.

That preparation did not make the first season effortless. A technical problem at San Diego cost Brageot training and qualifying time, leaving an awkward start to race day. He described solving the problem as part of building experience together. Mental preparation mattered too: a deliberate routine helped him arrive at the start gate ready to concentrate on flying rather than everything happening around the race.

MSFS 2024

The single-seat MXS uses a carbon-fibre structure, low wing and compact fuselage for competition aerobatics. The MXS-R developed the aircraft for air racing, with equipment and configuration specific to that role. The simulator represents the racing version.

This starting point selects MX Aircraft MXS-R. Its aircraft-level settings do not select a particular developer’s custom systems.

The selected response supplies the racer’s pitch/roll balance. Spring resistance builds with the selected airspeed response. A separate aerodynamic term adds speed-dependent control load.

Pitch trim relief accompanies the named racing configuration. Valid trim provides the configured pressure relief. Autopilot following is off.

Controls and trim

The MXS-R is the racing development of a single-seat composite aerobatic aircraft. Its compact fuselage, low wing and piston power serve that competition role. The race fit retains its own equipment rather than being only a livery.

MX Aircraft Examination Report

About the values

The gains are normalized profile settings. They describe the chosen effect balance; hand force depends on the device and its output limits. IAS references are tuning values rather than operating limits. Physical acceptance of this revision remains pending.

Master gain & control system

Master gain85%

Perché qui: Scales overall profile strength while preserving effect balance, subject to device and output limits.

Forces

Spring strength74%

Perché qui: The selected response supplies the racer’s pitch/roll balance. The baseline spring is 0.74. Its low-speed blend reaches baseline strength at 85 KIAS.

MX Aircraft Examination Report
Spring deadband3%

Perché qui: Sets travel around the centre before the baseline spring resists. Smaller values engage it sooner.

Overall aerodynamic load40%

Perché qui: The aerodynamic-load gain is 0.4 with an indicated-speed reference of 170 KIAS. This supplies speed-dependent loading alongside the spring.

Airspeed blendingTrue

Perché qui: Allows baseline spring strength to rise with indicated airspeed where the control law permits it.

Low-speed spring floor50%

Perché qui: Sets low-speed spring strength as a fraction of baseline when blending is enabled. One keeps full strength.

Spring engagement start20 kt

Perché qui: Sets the IAS where the low-speed spring blend starts rising. This is a feel threshold, not a flight limit.

Spring engagement full85.0 kt

Perché qui: Sets the IAS where the low-speed blend reaches baseline strength; high-speed stiffening also uses it.

Perché qui: Sets the IAS reference for aerodynamic loading. It is an estimate, not published cruise TAS or a flight limit.

Centre firmness vs speed0%

Perché qui: The high-speed spring-stiffening gain is 0. No additional speed-driven stiffening is added; this does not disable independent aerodynamic loading.

Centre stiffening cap5

Perché qui: Limits the squared airspeed ratio used for high-speed spring stiffening; it is not a device-force cap.

Aileron load72%

Perché qui: Roll and pitch aerodynamic scales are 0.72 and 1, respectively. They set the aerodynamic axis balance. No custom spring-travel curve is enabled.

Elevator load100%

Perché qui: Scales pitch aerodynamic loading; pitch spring travel and trim responses are separate settings.

Max output force55%

Native spring effects and device limits remain separate.

Trim

Trim relief (elevator)30%

Perché qui: Pitch trim relief accompanies the named racing configuration. Pitch authority 0.3 provides load relief and permitted centre movement; roll authority is 0.

MX Aircraft Examination Report
Trim relief (aileron)0%

Perché qui: Scales supported roll-trim relief and permitted centre movement. Zero removes roll response.

Effect gains · Ground

Runway rumble40%

Perché qui: Sets rolling texture strength, modified by speed, surface and undercarriage configuration.

Gear bumps30%

Perché qui: Sets gear-bump texture during ground motion, separate from touchdown impact.

Effect gains · Airframe

Stall buffet30%

Zero removes the cue without changing simulator stalls or warnings.

Mach buffet0%

Perché qui: Sets high-Mach buffet strength; onset and full-strength thresholds are separate.

Flap buffet0%

Perché qui: Sets flap buffet at the configured position and speed gates. Flap movement texture is separate.

Gear buffet0%

Perché qui: Sets gear aerodynamic buffet; movement and ground-contact cues are separate.

Stick shaker50%

Perché qui: Sets triggered shaker strength; inactive while the shaker feature is disabled.

Effect gains · Engine, mechanical & drag

Touchdown thump60%

Perché qui: Sets landing-impact strength; landing telemetry and response shape determine the pulse.

Reverse rumble0%

Perché qui: Sets reverse-thrust vibration with valid reverser and engine conditions. Zero removes the cue.

Engine rumble12%

Perché qui: Sets estimated engine vibration using configured telemetry and response, not measured cockpit vibration.

Flap motion0%

Perché qui: Sets texture from observed flap movement; a command without movement does not establish the cue.

Autopilot follow

AP follow authority5%

Perché qui: Sets admitted AP-follow gain, not a percentage of travel. Runtime ownership and input limits still apply.

Stick feel

StickFeel · Trim feel enabledTrue

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Perché qui: Retained for compatibility and group membership. Trim relief, rather than this flag, controls centre movement.

StickFeel · Trim relief enabledTrue

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Perché qui: Allows trim relief with supported control law and valid telemetry. Axis authorities set its amount.

StickFeel · Force trim enabledFalse

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Perché qui: Enables rate damping with the configured coefficients and control law.

Autopilot

Autopilot · Follow enabledFalse

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Perché qui: Autopilot following is off; the configured spring and load retain the hardware feel.

Autopilot · Neutral hold strength0.6

Perché qui: Sets admitted AP neutral-hold strength; inactive while neutral hold is disabled.

Aero

Aero · EnabledTrue

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Perché qui: Enables aerodynamic cues; each still needs nonzero strength and its simulator conditions.

Aero · Max flap index1

Where this effect reaches full strength (or has fully faded, for washouts).

Più: a more gradual build to a later peak.

Meno: a quicker build.

Perché qui: Sets the final flap index for detent normalization. UP plus three detents uses maximum index3.

Aero · Min flap index1

Where this effect begins fading in.

Più: the effect begins later.

Meno: it begins earlier.

Perché qui: Sets the first flap detent that admits buffet; this is a handle index, not degrees.

Aero · Shaker enabledFalse

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Perché qui: Permits shaker at supported warning conditions; the switch does not establish aircraft equipment.

Ground

Ground · EnabledTrue

Whether this feature is active in this profile.
