The Explorer develops beyond the MD900

The MD902 developed from the original MD900 Explorer, continuing its twin-engine utility role and NOTAR anti-torque system. Instead of an exposed tail rotor, the design manages anti-torque through its tailboom system. The family found work in emergency medical transport, police and utility missions.

JRX represents an MD902E installation with PW207E engines and a mission-configurable cabin. Its EMS, utility and passenger versions reflect different uses of the same helicopter rather than separate airframe histories.

Stability augmentation and simulated trim

The JRX equipment list includes a KFC295 three-axis autopilot with stability augmentation. The add-on also has a custom trim system with four sensitivity settings and virtual cyclic centring. Those simulator controls matter when comparing the feel of a centred desktop joystick with the helicopter's control system.

About the values

Strengths are normalized hardware-feel settings. They set the effect balance; hand force depends on the device and its limits. The IAS reference is a tuning value.

Master gain & control system

Master gain65%

Warum hier: Scales overall profile strength while preserving effect balance, subject to device and output limits.

Forces

Spring strength10%

Warum hier: This profile uses cyclic loading for MD 902 Explorer. The baseline spring is 0.1. Low-speed spring blending is off.

Overall aerodynamic load0%

Warum hier: The 0 gain omits sustained directed airspeed loading. Spring resistance remains independent.

Elevator load100%

Warum hier: Scales pitch aerodynamic loading; pitch spring travel and trim responses are separate settings.

Aileron load100%

Weniger: leichtere, quirligere Querruder.

Warum hier: Roll and pitch aerodynamic scales are 1 and 1, respectively. These stored weights do not create directed aerodynamic loading while that term is inactive. No custom spring-travel curve is enabled.

Max output force55%

Warum hier: Caps directed-force output. Native spring effects and device limits remain separate.

Warum hier: Sets the IAS reference for aerodynamic loading. It is an estimate, not published cruise TAS or a flight limit.

Spring deadband2%

Warum hier: Sets travel around the centre before the baseline spring resists. Smaller values engage it sooner.

Airspeed blendingFalse

Warum hier: Allows baseline spring strength to rise with indicated airspeed where the control law permits it.

Low-speed spring floor100%

Warum hier: Sets low-speed spring strength as a fraction of baseline when blending is enabled. One keeps full strength.

Spring engagement start16.8 kt

Warum hier: Sets the IAS where the low-speed spring blend starts rising. This is a feel threshold, not a flight limit.

Spring engagement full60.0 kt

Warum hier: Sets the IAS where the low-speed blend reaches baseline strength; high-speed stiffening also uses it.

Centre firmness vs speed0%

Warum hier: Adds permitted spring resistance above the full-blend speed. Zero removes this high-speed increase.

Centre stiffening cap5

Warum hier: Limits the squared airspeed ratio used for high-speed spring stiffening; it is not a device-force cap.

Trim

Trim relief (elevator)0%

Warum hier: Scales supported pitch-trim relief and permitted centre movement. Zero removes pitch response.

Trim relief (aileron)0%

Weniger: Rolltrimmung bewirkt weniger.

Warum hier: Scales supported roll-trim relief and permitted centre movement. Zero removes roll response.

Effect gains · Ground

Runway rumble0%

Rollende Untergrundvibration aus Radgeschwindigkeit und Oberflächenart: die Textur von Asphalt, Gras oder Schotter unter dem Fahrwerk.

Mehr: lautere Oberflächentextur durch den Stick.

Weniger: ruhigeres Rollen.

Warum hier: Sets rolling texture strength, modified by speed, surface and undercarriage configuration.

Gear bumps0%

Weniger: weichere Bodendetails.

Warum hier: Sets gear-bump texture during ground motion, separate from touchdown impact.

Effect gains · Airframe

Stall buffet0%

Warum hier: Sets stall-buffet strength. Zero removes the cue without changing simulator stalls or warnings.

Mach buffet0%

Warum hier: Sets high-Mach buffet strength; onset and full-strength thresholds are separate.

Flap buffet0%

Weniger: ruhigere Anflugklappen.

Warum hier: Sets flap buffet at the configured position and speed gates. Flap movement texture is separate.

Gear buffet0%

Warum hier: Sets gear aerodynamic buffet; movement and ground-contact cues are separate.

Stick shaker50%

Warum hier: Sets triggered shaker strength; inactive while the shaker feature is disabled.

Effect gains · Engine, mechanical & drag

Engine rumble0%

Warum hier: NOTAR does not supply a generic tail-rotor cyclic contract. Engine, rotor and airframe texture are separate estimates; no rotor harmonic is established by animation.

Flap motion0%

Warum hier: NOTAR does not supply a generic tail-rotor cyclic contract. Engine, rotor and airframe texture are separate estimates; no rotor harmonic is established by animation.

Touchdown thump20%

Warum hier: Sets landing-impact strength; landing telemetry and response shape determine the pulse.

Reverse rumble0%

Ausrollvibration bei Schubumkehr oder Beta-Verstellung. Null für Muster ohne Umkehr.

Mehr: ein rauerer Ausrollvorgang unter Umkehrschub.

Weniger: leisere Umkehr.

Warum hier: Sets reverse-thrust vibration with valid reverser and engine conditions. Zero removes the cue.

Autopilot follow

AP follow authority5%

Warum hier: Sets admitted AP-follow gain, not a percentage of travel. Runtime ownership and input limits still apply.

Mechanical

Mechanical · Gain0

The strength of this effect.

Mehr: a stronger effect.

Weniger: a weaker one.

Warum hier: NOTAR does not supply a generic tail-rotor cyclic contract. Engine, rotor and airframe texture are separate estimates; no rotor harmonic is established by animation.

Mechanical · EnabledTrue

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Warum hier: Enables accessory cues with configured strengths and observed accessory movement.

StickFeel · Trim feel enabledFalse

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Warum hier: Retained for compatibility and group membership. Trim relief, rather than this flag, controls centre movement.

StickFeel · Trim relief enabledFalse

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Warum hier: Allows trim relief with supported control law and valid telemetry. Axis authorities set its amount.

StickFeel · Force trim enabledFalse

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Warum hier: The profile uses the trim behaviour configured below. Local force trim is off. The stored latch parameters are inactive; the profile does not supply a local hold-where-left neutral.

Whether this feature is active in this profile.

Warum hier: Permits centering hold during a supported AP state, separate from following a moving target.

Autopilot · Neutral hold strength0.6

Warum hier: Sets admitted AP neutral-hold strength; inactive while neutral hold is disabled.

Aero · Max flap index1

Where this effect reaches full strength (or has fully faded, for washouts).

Mehr: a more gradual build to a later peak.

Weniger: a quicker build.

Warum hier: Sets the final flap index for detent normalization. UP plus three detents uses maximum index3.

Aero · Min flap index1

Where this effect begins fading in.

Mehr: the effect begins later.

Weniger: it begins earlier.

Warum hier: Sets the first flap detent that admits buffet; this is a handle index, not degrees.
