The CT family changes through successive versions

Wolter’s historical introduction traces the CT from its 1997 debut through the CT2K and the shorter-wing CTSW. The accounts selected here concern early CT, CTSW and CTLS aircraft. They provide family background; none is presented as a direct flight test of the simulator’s CTSL.

A larger-aircraft pilot learns a smaller cockpit’s sight picture

Horne found more equipment inside the small CT than its size had led him to expect. On a hot day at Ellington, he and importer Tom Peghiny flew with full fuel, giving him an introduction to an aircraft that combined a compact shape with an ambitious instrument panel. The controls needed a sensitive touch and attention to coordination.

Landings revealed how much his habits came from larger singles. The CT’s view and its reluctance to slow down left him adjusting his familiar approach picture, with some smooth touchdowns and some less graceful ones. The experience belongs to an early CT, providing family context for the later CTSL listed on this page.

A capable aircraft does not quite win the writer’s heart

Wolter’s encounter with the CTSW began with unfamiliar glass displays and a joke from Uwe Post about how much electronics the aircraft contained. The wide seating area and generous view soon made a better impression than the initial need to learn the panel. In flight, Wolter found an agile aircraft that felt less nervous than he had expected.

The landing brought another adjustment: he began the flare too early, although the undercarriage softened the arrival. His overall judgement remained more complicated than simple enthusiasm. He recognised the aircraft’s technical qualities and useful handling, but its appearance did little for him emotionally.

Finding a comfortable seat in a light aircraft

Godlewski was pleased to discover that the CTLS could accommodate her shorter stature without an extra cushion. Seat adjustment, cabin comfort and the quiet surroundings helped her settle in before the demonstration with Ken Godin. The externally accessed baggage area was another detail that made her think about how the aircraft would work on a trip.

Once airborne, she needed a few minutes to learn what level flight looked like over the curved panel. The clear view became particularly useful around busy Sebring, where other aircraft made looking outside an immediate priority. Turns and coordination exercises helped her become familiar with the controls.

Flight Design CTSL

Free + Pro
MSFS 2024MSFS 2020

Flight Design developed the CT series in Germany around lightweight recreational and touring use. Fixed tricycle landing gear and a high wing make the basic configuration straightforward, while the rounded composite fuselage gives it a distinctive appearance.

This starting point selects Flight Design CTSL. Its aircraft-level settings do not select a particular developer’s custom systems.

The selected spring and airspeed loading accompany the light-aircraft controls. Spring resistance builds with the selected airspeed response. A separate aerodynamic term adds speed-dependent control load.

Configured trim relief stays with the CTSL profile’s selected authority. Valid trim provides the configured pressure relief. Autopilot following is off.

Controls and trim

The CTSL belongs to Flight Design’s lightweight composite high-wing line. Its dimensions and equipment are distinct from CT2K, CTSW and CTLS configurations, with the simulator package identifying the represented engine and cockpit.

About the values

The gains are normalized profile settings. They describe the chosen effect balance; hand force depends on the device and its output limits. IAS references are tuning values rather than operating limits. Physical acceptance of this revision remains pending.

Master gain & control system

Master gain85%

Por qué aquí: Scales overall profile strength while preserving effect balance, subject to device and output limits.

Forces

Spring strength74%

Por qué aquí: The selected spring and airspeed loading accompany the light-aircraft controls. The baseline spring is 0.74. Its low-speed blend reaches baseline strength at 50 KIAS.

Flight Design CT Super series brochure
Spring deadband4%

Por qué aquí: Sets travel around the centre before the baseline spring resists. Smaller values engage it sooner.

Overall aerodynamic load80%

Por qué aquí: The aerodynamic-load gain is 0.8 with an indicated-speed reference of 100 KIAS. This supplies speed-dependent loading alongside the spring.

Airspeed blendingTrue

Por qué aquí: Allows baseline spring strength to rise with indicated airspeed where the control law permits it.

Low-speed spring floor50%

Por qué aquí: Sets low-speed spring strength as a fraction of baseline when blending is enabled. One keeps full strength.

Spring engagement start14.0 kt

Por qué aquí: Sets the IAS where the low-speed spring blend starts rising. This is a feel threshold, not a flight limit.

Spring engagement full50.0 kt

Por qué aquí: Sets the IAS where the low-speed blend reaches baseline strength; high-speed stiffening also uses it.

Por qué aquí: Sets the IAS reference for aerodynamic loading. It is an estimate, not published cruise TAS or a flight limit.

Centre firmness vs speed15%

Por qué aquí: The high-speed spring-stiffening gain is 0.15. It strengthens the permitted spring response above 50 KIAS, with the squared-speed ratio capped at 5.

Centre stiffening cap5

Por qué aquí: Limits the squared airspeed ratio used for high-speed spring stiffening; it is not a device-force cap.

Aileron load72%

Por qué aquí: Roll and pitch aerodynamic scales are 0.72 and 1, respectively. They set the aerodynamic axis balance. No custom spring-travel curve is enabled.

Elevator load100%

Por qué aquí: Scales pitch aerodynamic loading; pitch spring travel and trim responses are separate settings.

Max output force55%

Native spring effects and device limits remain separate.

Trim

Trim relief (elevator)30%

Menos: sigues sosteniendo esfuerzo aun compensado.

Por qué aquí: Configured trim relief stays with the CTSL profile’s selected authority. Pitch authority 0.3 provides load relief and permitted centre movement; roll authority is 0.

Flight Design CT Super series brochure
Trim relief (aileron)0%

Por qué aquí: Scales supported roll-trim relief and permitted centre movement. Zero removes roll response.

Effect gains · Ground

Runway rumble40%

Por qué aquí: Sets rolling texture strength, modified by speed, surface and undercarriage configuration.

Gear bumps25%

Por qué aquí: Sets gear-bump texture during ground motion, separate from touchdown impact.

Effect gains · Airframe

Stall buffet35%

Zero removes the cue without changing simulator stalls or warnings.

Mach buffet0%

Por qué aquí: Sets high-Mach buffet strength; onset and full-strength thresholds are separate.

Flap buffet14%

Por qué aquí: Sets flap buffet at the configured position and speed gates. Flap movement texture is separate.

Gear buffet0%

Por qué aquí: Sets gear aerodynamic buffet; movement and ground-contact cues are separate.

Stick shaker50%

Por qué aquí: Sets triggered shaker strength; inactive while the shaker feature is disabled.

Effect gains · Engine, mechanical & drag

Touchdown thump65%

Por qué aquí: Sets landing-impact strength; landing telemetry and response shape determine the pulse.

Reverse rumble0%

Por qué aquí: Sets reverse-thrust vibration with valid reverser and engine conditions. Zero removes the cue.

Engine rumble12%

Por qué aquí: Sets estimated engine vibration using configured telemetry and response, not measured cockpit vibration.

Flap motion12%

Por qué aquí: Sets texture from observed flap movement; a command without movement does not establish the cue.

Autopilot follow

AP follow authority10%

Por qué aquí: Sets admitted AP-follow gain, not a percentage of travel. Runtime ownership and input limits still apply.
