Kenne das Flugzeug

The F28 brought Fokker into the regional-jet market after its turboprop transports. Two rear-mounted engines, a low wing and a T-tail formed the basic layout; later versions changed the fuselage and wing.

The Fellowship's flight deck uses an earlier generation of airline equipment and automation than the BAe 146 and Embraer E-Jets. Just Flight's manual describes the variants and systems included in its package.

Teaching new crews while flying a new airline’s routes

An early Fokker assignment took Studstrup to Tripoli for eight months, supporting three F28s at Libyan Arab Airlines. Expatriate crews initially operated the aircraft while local pilots gained experience. The work mixed shuttles between Tripoli and Benghazi with desert oil-field destinations and international trips to cities such as Rome.

Introducing the F28 in the United States brought a different working environment. He supported Altair and Empire and enjoyed the opportunity to operate into the busy airports around New York and Washington. Across these assignments, the aircraft was both an airliner earning its keep and a setting for teaching other pilots.

Leaving an aircraft after twenty-one years in its cockpit

Wallin had flown the F28 since 1978 and regarded it as a particularly pilot-friendly aircraft. By its Swedish farewell in 1999, it had become a familiar part of his working life. His affection for its straightforward handling sat alongside an appreciation of what the aircraft had meant to regional air travel in Sweden.

The farewell brought that wider community together. After the last paying-passenger services, an invited flight returned to Ängelholm with current and former staff, followed by a gathering in the hangar. Wallin flew SE-DGP with Roland Karlsson for the occasion.

From the first prototype flight to demonstrations overseas

Van der Schraaf shared the F28’s first flight with Cees Dik after chief test pilot Jas Moll chose them for the task. The prototype’s interior was sparse, occupied by test equipment rather than the passenger fittings that would later make it an airliner. Development flying then gradually explored what the new aircraft could do.

Demonstration work carried the F28 much farther from its Dutch home. On an Australian trip, bad weather around Sydney and an unserviceable radar complicated the flying, while damage to the radome required repairs and replacement equipment. Recalling those assignments decades later, Van der Schraaf linked the excitement of introducing a new jet with the less glamorous delays and practical problems that accompanied taking it around the world.

Just Flight F28-1000

Free + Pro
MSFS 2020MSFS 2024Just Flight

The F28 brought Fokker into the regional-jet market after its turboprop transports. Two rear-mounted engines, a low wing and a T-tail formed the basic layout; later versions changed the fuselage and wing.

This profile selects Just Flight F28-1000 for MSFS 2020, MSFS 2024.

Axis-specific feel motivates a separate pitch/roll balance. The spring stays independent of airspeed. Directed aerodynamic loading is omitted.

Roll and yaw trim move artificial-spring neutral; the documented elevator arrangement is different. Pitch-trim relief is off. Autopilot following is off.

Controls and trim

The F28’s duplicated hydraulic actuators coexist with axis-specific feel systems. Roll and yaw use springs whose neutral is moved by trim; the elevator description identifies natural airloads rather than the same artificial trim spring. The -1000 through -4000 retain distinct airframe variants.

The selected implementation

Just Flight includes -1000/-2000/-3000/-4000 variants with shared documented control architecture.

F28 Professionalv2.2 PDF pp.57-60www.justflight.com

About the values

The gains are normalized profile settings. They describe the chosen effect balance; hand force depends on the device and its output limits. IAS references are tuning values rather than operating limits. Physical acceptance of this revision remains pending.

Master gain & control system

Master gain85%

Warum hier: Scales overall profile strength while preserving effect balance, subject to device and output limits.

Forces

Spring strength80%

Warum hier: Axis-specific feel motivates a separate pitch/roll balance. The baseline spring is 0.8. Low-speed spring blending is off.

F28 Professionalv2.2 PDF pp.57-60www.justflight.comF28 manuals
Spring deadband4%

Warum hier: Sets travel around the centre before the baseline spring resists. Smaller values engage it sooner.

Overall aerodynamic load0%

Warum hier: The stored 0 aerodynamic-load gain is inactive under the zero hydraulic-load factor.

Airspeed blendingFalse

Warum hier: Allows baseline spring strength to rise with indicated airspeed where the control law permits it.

Low-speed spring floor55%

Warum hier: Sets low-speed spring strength as a fraction of baseline when blending is enabled. One keeps full strength.

Spring engagement start8 kt

Warum hier: Sets the IAS where the low-speed spring blend starts rising. This is a feel threshold, not a flight limit.

Spring engagement full65 kt

Warum hier: Sets the IAS where the low-speed blend reaches baseline strength; high-speed stiffening also uses it.

Warum hier: Sets the IAS reference for aerodynamic loading. It is an estimate, not published cruise TAS or a flight limit.

Centre firmness vs speed0%

Warum hier: The high-speed spring-stiffening gain is 0. No additional speed-driven stiffening is added; this does not disable independent aerodynamic loading.

Centre stiffening cap5

Warum hier: Limits the squared airspeed ratio used for high-speed spring stiffening; it is not a device-force cap.

Aileron load72%

Weniger: leichtere, quirligere Querruder.

Warum hier: Roll and pitch aerodynamic scales are 0.72 and 1, respectively. These stored weights do not create directed aerodynamic loading while that term is inactive. No custom spring-travel curve is enabled.

Elevator load100%

Warum hier: Scales pitch aerodynamic loading; pitch spring travel and trim responses are separate settings.

Max output force55%

Warum hier: Caps directed-force output. Native spring effects and device limits remain separate.

Trim

Trim relief (elevator)0%

Warum hier: Roll and yaw trim move artificial-spring neutral; the documented elevator arrangement is different. Pitch relief is off, with stored authority 0; roll authority is 0.12.

F28 Professionalv2.2 PDF pp.57-60www.justflight.comF28 manuals
Trim relief (aileron)12%

Weniger: Rolltrimmung bewirkt weniger.

Warum hier: Scales supported roll-trim relief and permitted centre movement. Zero removes roll response.

Effect gains · Ground

Runway rumble40%

Rollende Untergrundvibration aus Radgeschwindigkeit und Oberflächenart: die Textur von Asphalt, Gras oder Schotter unter dem Fahrwerk.

Mehr: lautere Oberflächentextur durch den Stick.

Weniger: ruhigeres Rollen.

Warum hier: Sets rolling texture strength, modified by speed, surface and undercarriage configuration.

Gear bumps32%

Weniger: weichere Bodendetails.

Warum hier: Sets gear-bump texture during ground motion, separate from touchdown impact.

Effect gains · Airframe

Stall buffet0%

Warum hier: Sets stall-buffet strength. Zero removes the cue without changing simulator stalls or warnings.

Mach buffet0%

Warum hier: Sets high-Mach buffet strength; onset and full-strength thresholds are separate.

Flap buffet0%

Weniger: ruhigere Anflugklappen.

Warum hier: Sets flap buffet at the configured position and speed gates. Flap movement texture is separate.

Gear buffet0%

Warum hier: Sets gear aerodynamic buffet; movement and ground-contact cues are separate.

Stick shaker90%

Warum hier: Sets triggered shaker strength; inactive while the shaker feature is disabled.

Effect gains · Engine, mechanical & drag

Touchdown thump90%

Warum hier: Sets landing-impact strength; landing telemetry and response shape determine the pulse.

Reverse rumble0%

Ausrollvibration bei Schubumkehr oder Beta-Verstellung. Null für Muster ohne Umkehr.

Mehr: ein rauerer Ausrollvorgang unter Umkehrschub.

Weniger: leisere Umkehr.

Warum hier: Sets reverse-thrust vibration with valid reverser and engine conditions. Zero removes the cue.

Engine rumble6%

Warum hier: Sets estimated engine vibration using configured telemetry and response, not measured cockpit vibration.

Flap motion12%

Warum hier: Sets texture from observed flap movement; a command without movement does not establish the cue.

Autopilot follow

AP follow authority10%

Warum hier: Sets admitted AP-follow gain, not a percentage of travel. Runtime ownership and input limits still apply.
