The original CitationJet gives way to the CJ1

Horne’s 2000 report describes the transition after the 359th original CitationJet. The CJ1 introduced a Pro Line 21 panel in place of the earlier Honeywell installation, explaining why accounts and simulator cockpits within the Model 525 family can look different.

A short ferry flight becomes a lesson in staying ahead

Boyer expected the short journey to Frederick to be straightforward. Instead, frequency changes, headings, altitude instructions and preparation for an instrument approach arrived faster than he felt able to organise them. He had flown capable aircraft before, but the jet’s pace exposed how much of his attention the unfamiliar cockpit still required.

Slowing the aircraft and preparing it for the arrival gave him time to think again. Looking back, he connected the episode with the need to learn automation well enough that it actually helps. The distance covered was small, but the flight stayed with him as a useful reminder that a new aircraft changes the rhythm of even a familiar journey.

Weather sets the rhythm of a cross-country demonstration

Horne’s demonstration flight put the CJ1 to work on a real journey from Wichita to Frederick with four people aboard. Weather limited the climb below the altitude they had hoped to use, and thunderstorms over Missouri required attention to the radar and a route around the cells. The trip supplied a practical setting for becoming familiar with the newer cockpit.

After two and a half hours, the aircraft reached Frederick and Horne managed a landing he regarded as acceptable. The unfamiliar luxury of arriving in a business jet at his home airport added to the experience. His account combines the pleasure of the trip with the ordinary weather and cockpit tasks that continued throughout it.

A weekly journey turns jet ownership into a training goal

Martin bought his first CitationJet in 1995 before he was qualified to operate it himself. Flying was tied closely to his racing work: a regular Tuesday visit from Florida to the North Carolina race shop made the arrangements for taking another pilot increasingly inconvenient. Qualifying to fly the aircraft alone became a clear personal goal.

By the end of 1996 he had achieved it. In the interview, Martin acknowledged how quickly he had pushed through his early flying ambitions, from a private licence to instruments, multiple engines and a jet. He enjoyed flying, but usually wanted a destination and a purpose. The CitationJet fitted into that life as a way to reach work and places he wanted to visit.

About the values

The gains are normalized profile settings. They describe the chosen effect balance; hand force depends on the device and its output limits. IAS references are tuning values rather than operating limits. Physical acceptance of this revision remains pending.

Master gain & control system

Master gain85%

Pourquoi ici : Scales overall profile strength while preserving effect balance, subject to device and output limits.

Forces

Spring strength74%

Pourquoi ici : The selected original-525 yoke resistance is nominal and does not inherit CJ4 or Longitude control architecture from a shared Citation name. The baseline spring is 0.74. Its low-speed blend reaches baseline strength at 65 KIAS.

TorqueSim CitationJet 525 product featuresCitationJet525 official user manual download
Spring deadband4%

Pourquoi ici : Sets travel around the centre before the baseline spring resists. Smaller values engage it sooner.

Overall aerodynamic load80%

Pourquoi ici : The aerodynamic-load gain is 0.8 with an indicated-speed reference of 220 KIAS. This supplies speed-dependent loading alongside the spring.

Airspeed blendingTrue

Pourquoi ici : Allows baseline spring strength to rise with indicated airspeed where the control law permits it.

Low-speed spring floor50%

Pourquoi ici : Sets low-speed spring strength as a fraction of baseline when blending is enabled. One keeps full strength.

Spring engagement start8 kt

Pourquoi ici : Sets the IAS where the low-speed spring blend starts rising. This is a feel threshold, not a flight limit.

Spring engagement full65 kt

Pourquoi ici : Sets the IAS where the low-speed blend reaches baseline strength; high-speed stiffening also uses it.

Pourquoi ici : Sets the IAS reference for aerodynamic loading. It is an estimate, not published cruise TAS or a flight limit.

Centre firmness vs speed15%

Pourquoi ici : The high-speed spring-stiffening gain is 0.15. It strengthens the permitted spring response above 65 KIAS, with the squared-speed ratio capped at 5.

Centre stiffening cap5

Pourquoi ici : Limits the squared airspeed ratio used for high-speed spring stiffening; it is not a device-force cap.

Aileron load74%

Pourquoi ici : Roll and pitch aerodynamic scales are 0.74 and 1, respectively. They set the aerodynamic axis balance. No custom spring-travel curve is enabled.

Elevator load100%

Pourquoi ici : Scales pitch aerodynamic loading; pitch spring travel and trim responses are separate settings.

Max output force55%

Pourquoi ici : Caps directed-force output. Native spring effects and device limits remain separate.

Trim

Trim relief (elevator)30%

Pourquoi ici : Pitch relief remains a selected software response; the accessible product description does not calibrate trim or autopilot-driven hardware motion. Pitch authority 0.3 provides load relief and permitted centre movement; roll authority is 0.1.

TorqueSim CitationJet 525 product featuresCitationJet525 official user manual download
Trim relief (aileron)10%

Pourquoi ici : Scales supported roll-trim relief and permitted centre movement. Zero removes roll response.

Effect gains · Ground

Runway rumble40%

Pourquoi ici : Sets rolling texture strength, modified by speed, surface and undercarriage configuration.

Gear bumps25%

Pourquoi ici : Sets gear-bump texture during ground motion, separate from touchdown impact.

Effect gains · Airframe

Stall buffet35%

Pourquoi ici : Sets stall-buffet strength. Zero removes the cue without changing simulator stalls or warnings.

Mach buffet0%

Pourquoi ici : Sets high-Mach buffet strength; onset and full-strength thresholds are separate.

Flap buffet0%

Pourquoi ici : Sets flap buffet at the configured position and speed gates. Flap movement texture is separate.

Gear buffet0%

Pourquoi ici : Sets gear aerodynamic buffet; movement and ground-contact cues are separate.

Stick shaker50%

Pourquoi ici : Sets triggered shaker strength; inactive while the shaker feature is disabled.

Effect gains · Engine, mechanical & drag

Touchdown thump65%

Pourquoi ici : Sets landing-impact strength; landing telemetry and response shape determine the pulse.

Reverse rumble0%

Pourquoi ici : Sets reverse-thrust vibration with valid reverser and engine conditions. Zero removes the cue.

Engine rumble6%

Pourquoi ici : Sets estimated engine vibration using configured telemetry and response, not measured cockpit vibration.

Flap motion12%

Pourquoi ici : Sets texture from observed flap movement; a command without movement does not establish the cue.

Autopilot follow

AP follow authority10%

Pourquoi ici : Sets admitted AP-follow gain, not a percentage of travel. Runtime ownership and input limits still apply.
